Reflection

Being overly dependent on someone else is usually viewed as weakness – and, in extreme cases, a mental illness. However, dependency on God is not a weakness; in fact, it’s really nothing more than facing reality. God sustains all life every moment of the day. Apart from him nothing can exist.

If we really believe that every breath depends of God, shouldn’t our lives reflect that belief? In fact, as extreme as it sounds, we should acknowledge our dependence on God in everything we do and say. So, instead of trying to accomplish things on our own, we should submit ourselves to God’s agenda and allow him to carry it out through us.

Collect for the Day

Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory; to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be praise and honour, glory and might, now and in all eternity. Amen.
