Reflection
God shows us many times in Scripture that He takes the needs of foreigners, widows and orphans very seriously. He challenges His people to be just as sensitive. Perhaps your family has had to move to a new town, maybe even more than once. It’s not easy developing new friends or learning which plumber or electrician is the best or, most of all, finding a new church where your family feels at home. It’s easy to feel alone, frustrated and out of place.
North America draws hundreds of thousands of refugees and immigrants from other countries. And every year, families move into your community. So there’s no doubt you can have the opportunity to reach out to these “strangers in a strange land” with God’s love and acceptance.
God calls His people to be kind to “foreigners” – whether they’re actually from another land or not. To make them feel welcome. To make them feel at home in their new land. Open yourself up to those who are new to your community. Be sensitive to the struggles they face. Show them God’s kind, generous heart through your own words and actions.
Collect for the Day
Almighty God, send down upon your Church the riches of your Spirit, and kindle in all who minister the gospel your countless gifts of grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
