Reflection
Have you ever gone to a restaurant and noticed the amount of food that’s left on plates and, eventually, is thrown away? Do you regularly go through your refrigerator and clean out the produce that has gone bad? Do you ever wonder what people in impoverished countries would think if they saw the wasted food that we thoughtlessly toss away and that ends up in landfills? It would (or should) shame us all into managing our abundance more carefully.
What would happen if our society adopted the motto “Let nothing be wasted”? We live in a land of abundance. Unfortunately, one of the things that seems to go along with abundance is waste. Perhaps with some careful planning, we can begin to take small steps toward correcting this situation. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom as you brainstorm ways to keep from wasting food.
Collect for the Day
God of our pilgrimage, you have led us to the living water: refresh and sustain us as we go forward on our journey, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
