Reflection
Just like a wise parent, God’s patience is not limitless. He still expects His children to live obediently, maturely and wisely. If we don’t, there will be consequences – perhaps not on the level the Israelites faced, but painful nonetheless.
Make sure your heart never hardens like the Israelites’ hearts did. Be open to God’s warnings about sin. Be diligent to seek His will. You don’t have to experience what the Israelites did to “know that I am the LORD!” Be honest with God about your walk with Him. What sins have you committed lately? What bad attitudes are you harboring? Ask Him to give you the guidance and strength you need to live a righteous life.
Collect for the Day
O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
