Reflection
A friend calls you one day because she wants to borrow your most expensive necklace for a banquet she’s attending. You’re a little reluctant because she has a tendency to be careless with her belongings. Eventually, though, you agree to lend her the jewelry. Almost two months later, she finally returns it. Unfortunately the clasp is broken and some of the jewels are missing.
Some people are just as careless with the gifts God has given them. He wants His followers to realize that He has given each of us certain resources to use for His glory. All of these come from Him and all should be used for Him. He also wants the world to know that He is coming back one day and we should live with an ever-present awareness of His imminent return.
We will one day be judged for how well we have served God with the resources He has given us. Our future rewards will be determined by how faithfully we are serving Him in the present. Pray for faithfulness in managing all God has entrusted to you. Pray for opportunities to multiply your “allowances”. Trust God for opportunities to share the gift of the Gospel with those who have yet to receive it.
Collect for the Day
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father: give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
