Reflection
The Hebrew word for a lazy person is asel or sluggard. Not a pretty picture, is it? God is saying that He has no patience for those who refuse to accept the opportunities he or she is given. Be thankful for the responsibilities God has given you and strive to do the best that you can at all times. This not only honors God but gives others a solid reason to trust and have faith in you.
Like the ant, we should work hard when opportunities are available to not only meet our daily needs but to prepare for any lean times that lie ahead. Yet, we should also prayerfully consider helping at community kitchens, donating to food banks and assisting with church outreach programs.
Collect for the Day
Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you that in this wonderful sacrament you have given us the memorial of your passion: grant us so to reverence the sacred mysteries of your body and blood that we may know within ourselves and show forth in our lives the fruits of your redemption; for you are alive and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
