Reflection

Why do you suppose God is so strongly against complacency? Perhaps the best explanation is that complacency is a problem of the heart. It indicates that we have become detached from God and His concerns. God has a tremendous plan for His people – a plan that requires work on our part. If God has blessed us with material possessions, we must not forget that those blessings are not merely for our own enjoyment, they’re for the benefit of the entire Kingdom. We are commanded to use the blessings God has given us to help others. We must never forget or ignore that responsibility. It’s very, very easy to become complacent – often without even realizing it. That’s why it’s important to regularly check ourselves for signs of self-satisfaction.

Collect for the Day

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires, so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
