Reflection
It’s so easy to feel superior to someone else. They may not have as much as you do or they may be going through a difficult time because of a mistake they made or they may be a long-time scapegoat who is a frequent target of your friends’ disdain. Don’t fall into the trap of self-pride and smug satisfaction. God has forgiven each of us for things we’d be embarrassed to reveal. Be thankful for His mercy, not condemning of others who would like the same compassion from us. Confess any ways you’ve put others down because of pride. Ask God to help keep you from having a cruel tongue at the expense of others. Give thanks, too, that God hears your prayers when you are going through difficult times.
Collect for the Day
God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
