Reflection

Circumstances that seem devastating would not exist apart from the entrance of sin into the world. God’s control does not prevent such circumstances, but it does prevent them thwarting his purpose. He uses them to discipline his children, develop their character, and accomplish his plan. If you have ever lost your job for an extended period or suffered expensive medical bils due to illness or injury, you know how devastating it can seem. Living by faith is learning to trust God’s control and care for you in the face of these circumstances.

Collect for the Day

Grant, we pray, almighty God, that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens, so we in heart and mind may also ascend and with him continually dwell; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
