Reflection

Many bad mistakes result from people with good intentions. We who have lived the Christian life a while may think we have God figured out. But if we are honest, we will begin to see a pattern: We are imposing our expectations on God. And as Jesus so often reminded His disciples, that is an attitude that is doomed to fail. We have to put aside selfish tendencies, whatever the cost, to follow Him.

What wrong ideas and bad attitudes are keeping you from hearing what God is saying today? Ask the Lord to give you the strength to take up your cross and follow Him. Ask God to help you see things as He does. When you gave your heart to Him you also gave Him your trust that He knows best and that our assumptions, when not backed up by Scripture and fervent prayer, are misguided.

Collect for the Day

O Lord, from whom all good things come: grant to us your humble servants, that by your holy inspiration we may think those things that are good, and by your merciful guiding may perform the same; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
