Reflection
In today's psalm reading, David struggles with the enigma of why the wicked prosper and the righteous are afflicted. Written by David in his old age (vs. 25), he reflects upon his years of experience. Although his thoughts do not flow freely because of the alphabetic form of the Psalm, its many sayings resemble the book of Proverbs. At the end, we find David’s doctrine of grace. The very heart of the Gospel is the acknowledgement that Salvation belongs solely to the Lord. The righteous person comes to appreciate that the Lord God is the designer, the initiator, and the end of his or her salvation.
Collect for the Day
God, the giver of life, whose Holy Spirit wells up within your Church: by the Spirit’s gifts equip us to live the gospel of Christ and make us eager to do your will, that we may share with the whole creation the joys of eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
