Reflection

The theme of today's psalm is A hungry and thirsting soul finds relief in God. Chrysostom testifies that, “It was decreed and ordained by the primitive fathers, that no day should pass without the public singing of this psalm.” Again, this ancient preacher observes that “the spirit and soul of the whole book of Psalms is contracted into this psalm” This gem of a morning psalm is a reflection of David’s experience when he fled before his son Absalom. Throughout David focuses on the theme that those who swear by the name of God show themselves to be loyal and will be upheld by Him in the time of danger. When we swear our oath of allegiance to the Lord God, we never have reason to fear.

Collect for the Day

Almighty God, who built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone: so join us together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
