Reflection

Some people try to keep a set of rules – whether it’s going to church every week or even doing good deeds – in order to gain acceptance by God. But the only thing they get for their troubles is frustration. People simply can’t make it to God on their own. By dying on the cross, Jesus opened the way to God. He makes believers perfect in God’s sight. And now, rather than trying to follow impossible rules, we can live in the power of God’s Spirit.

We can become more and more like Jesus by living for Him every day. Thank God for freedom from the power of the law. Praise Him that he has given you freedom to live, freedom to serve and freedom to reach out to others. Ask God to give you opportunities to exercise your freedom in the power of the Spirit today.

Collect for the Day

O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
